The third round of negotiations of the Global System of Trade Preferences among Developing Countries (GSTP), also known
as the “São Paulo Round” was successfully concluded on the 15 of December 2010 after six years of intense negotiations.
The GSTP is among the most significant inter-regional trading agreement signed in the decade. The conclusion of the third
round creates an opportunity for expansion and diversification of trade among participating countries. Also, it reaffirms the
growing role of South-South Economic Cooperation, thus encouraging the participation of other members.
